By what pattern
does your life unfold?
Beyond what your story is, there's how it moves — the rhythm by which a normal day or project tends to play out. Kahler mapped six of these process patterns.
Does any of this sound like you?
- You can't relax until everything is finished.
- Right after something good, you brace for the catch.
- You never quite let yourself have the thing you want.
- You repeat the same kind of effort, over and over.
- You get almost there, then stop just short.
- You start many things and leave them open-ended.
Those are process patterns — not what your story is, but the rhythm by which it tends to unfold.
What's a "script process"?
Taibi Kahler found that scripts move in recognizable shapes — the time-signature of how a day, a project, or a relationship plays out:
Here's how it actually plays out
Until can't rest until the whole thing's finished, so rest rarely comes. After can't enjoy a good moment for bracing about the cost. Almost does 95% and stalls at the finish. Knowing your shape lets you spot the exact point where the pattern grabs the wheel — and that's where it can be interrupted.
What this test will show you
- The rhythm your story tends to follow
- The precise moment it tends to grab the wheel
- One way to interrupt it
